Mission

Leadership matters

look forwardVeteran administrators, experienced journeymen and emerging leaders in organizations nationwide, along with staff, stakeholders, and colleagues, are leading their organizations with vision, instructional leadership, commitment, and flexibility to make your own school or district an effective learning environment for today’s students.

21st Century Leadership Institute

Institute is a joint effort of AACTS and Meeder Consulting. It will provide current leaders, and emerging ones as well, with the tools needed to fully develop integrated learning environments where students are given the skills and knowledge they need in the 21st century.

The Institute has as its mission developing a new vision of education directed by leaders that understand the realities of current global competitiveness and technology. An understanding of the junction of core academics and technical and career education must take into account the current global relevant state of education and careers.

Are you undecided if leadership development is right for you? You will want to look into the differences in AACTS’s leadership development programs and find one that is the right fit for you!

21st Century Leadership Needs

Today, leaders in technical and career educational fields, career pathways and career clusters are faced with unprecedented challenges and opportunities.

Challenges

  • College readiness and career readiness are important objectives that are widely agreed upon; however, there is not much actual consensus about what that means and how to fully implement educational programs to ensure it. Leaders in CTE should help define these things.
  • Local, state, and national budget pressure has seriously threatened programs seen as non-essential.CTE leaders must effectively communicate the critical role of these career-themed courses.
  • Evaluating teachers based on student performance is increasingly being implemented. CTE leaders must help apply meaningful evaluation techniques for career-themed programs
  • General education leaders and policymakers sometimes do not fully understand the range of postsecondary CTE options and technical training that are available and can lead to solid employment options. CTE leaders must build strong secondary and postsecondary connection, and communicate the range of them to stakeholders.

Opportunities

Leaders in the U.S. are focused on building a competitive workforce and job creation, understanding that the traditional college route is disconnected from what the workforce really needs in some instances. CTE leaders demonstrating the direct connection between career-themed programs and workforce competitiveness can help.

Educational reform strategies in general have shown little progress in motivating and engaging some students. CTE leaders can offer alternatives, and lead the way by helping to build rigorous and relevant learning experiences.
