Mission

  • Institution has a group of individuals that are involved in a specific learning setting and format. The programs it offers should provide an interactive educational techniques.
  • The institution meets state licensing requirements.
  • A predominant percentage of participants involved with continuing education, as outlined in AACTS Document 24.
  • The applicant institution can demonstrate successful and on-going operation for at least two years prior to application. At least one class must have graduated and completed their training.
    • “Continuous operation” in this context means that the training activities and educational programs for which the institution seeks accreditation or reaccreditation, has operated without interruption.
    • Exceptions can be made if or when the interruption in operation is caused by abrupt or unforeseeable changes in regulations, civil disorder or forces of nature.
    • Institutions may apply for exceptions upon application to the commission if they can show good cause. Submissions must be made in a timely manner to allow for proper proper review of the application.
  • The institution has not had any prior accreditation withdrawn from a nationally accepted accrediting authority, nor voluntarily withdrawn during a show cause action within one year prior to AACTS application.
  • The institution has been under the same control or ownership for 2 years prior to application. This requisite may be waived if acceptable documentation can be provided showing that ownership or control is through a reputable and stable educational organization, or an individual with extensive administrative credentials within the educational field.
  • The institution offers post secondary diplomas, degrees or certificates up to the Associate’s level. If more advanced degrees are offered, specifically Bachelor level or higher, the institution is not eligible for accreditation. However, the restriction doesn’t apply to an independent department that offers Intensive English Programs (IEPs).
  • It prescribes a similar time function in continuing education units, credit hours or clock hours.
  • Education and training other than required for academic credentials is available.
  • The institution agrees to abide by the AACTS Bylaws, Principles of Ethics, and Standards for Accreditation and its policies and procedures, and support the goals and integrity of the process
  • It has a track record of responsible financial management for at least 2 years, and sufficient resources to maintain quality educational services and training, and complete the instruction of current enrollees.
