Credit Transfer
AACTS desires to protect the interests of students by requiring its accredited institutions to develop and implement fair and just credit transfer policies. However, AACTS cannot guarantee transfer of credits.
Potential students desiring transfer credits should consider these items before enrolling at a new school
- What is the credit transfer policy and assessment process?
- Does the school limit which schools it accepts credit from?
- Who assesses the credit transfer?
- Will a proficiency test be required?
- Is there a maximum number of credits that can transfer?
- Many institutions limit the number of transfer credits allowed.
- Is there a minimum number of courses that must be taken at the new institution for graduation purposes?
- How does the tuition reflect the transfer credits?
- What documentation must be provided?
All accredited vocational institutions should meet these minimum requirements for transfer of credits
- Credit transfer policy should be written, published in the school catalog or other publications, and be available for all students to review.
- The policy must include: What steps and criteria will be used when deciding on the transfer of credits earned at another institution, and a list of other institutions which the school has articulation agreements established.
Complaints
AACTS would appreciate if you attempt to resolve any issues with the institutions themselves when possible. However, if complaint resolution fails, you may file a complaint with AACTS.
